See the irony, do you?
It's never thirsty!

CHANGE

Change is like river
Nothing is ever the same
Even an instant

MOTHER

Thatched house filled with smoke
Someone feeds her only child
Mother's love unbound.

INNOCENCE

Morn calls out to me
The waking of an infant
Let us embrace joy.

White ball is rising
Millions of miles away
Beauty always grows.

And a swallow on a tree
They wait for the spring.

LIFE AND HOPE

In storm a tree fell down today -
Both green and yellow leaves fell.
The loss was greater, I must say -
Hopes, homes were lost, one can tell.

Birds flew away before it was morn -
Dreams woven onto the branches.
Some tiny wings weren't even born,
as the living flew over lush ranches.

Prasenjit©2022

FALL COLOURS

Why do you wait for spring?
What messages do flowers bring?
The leaves too change all in all,
in autumn before they finally fall.

PRECIPICE

Do not blame the man
who can from mirage drink.
Understand if you can,
how he is on life's brink!

RUMOURS

Every breath is a load on my chest,
while each passing day mocks at life.
Last breath, last laugh put to rest,
the dust settles with the dying rife.

SWEET OLD

Old memories gather round; all awake
and discuss their sweet old days.
The dreams that innocent minds make
is forever young, even as hair grays.

Prasenjit©2022

INCOMPLETE

We do not ever get the life we desire -
Some for bread some for riches aspire.
Wherever we look, this is what we see -
Minds captive within like pods of a pea.

WORKING CLASS

Far, far outside this busy town
flowing clouds envelope like a gown.
Unlike people of a very big city
there are simpletons - not so witty.

They work in heat, cold or shower -
Using their physique and mental power.
They have scars, ache and burns
in lieu of some daily meagre earns.

The rows of shady trees of the palm
is their bed, their coolness like a balm.
Gathering full vigour as the day set -
A new day, renewed hope, one can bet.

BE KIND

The further you go, higher you climb -
Alone you get with the passing time.
Aspire for the top, the topmost twig
and be of all the dandiest sprig.

As you rise, do carefully tread -
Live it simple on water and bread.
Journey of life halts at the grave.
So, shed your frailties and be brave.

You look at stars and feel the sun -
Live each day as the last - in fun.
Like branches, do spread your mind -
While on the way up, always be kind.

UNSTATELY STATE

Turmoil brews over decade long rule -
People understood their mistakes now.
The believer became an utter fool -
The mask of anarchy, made them bow.

Their own flimsy brain created a foe,
that was foolishly born out of curse.
Woes fell like vanishing flakes of snow,
while it emptied common man's purse.

The toll of bells, did you not hear?
You're amidst pack of wild hogs!
You are mum while they draw near,
sans the loyalty of friendly dogs.

'The wrongs' peak like the waves high,
while the corrupt move on ahead.
The winds of change can surely defy,
only when wise eyes carefully tread.

A PRISONER

They kept him in the prison,
for protests that slowly grew.
Cowardly whites gave no reason,
as more people to rebellion drew.

The cell was seven feet by nine
with bin, straw mat and a table.
He had his pride, a sturdy spine
and was like an owl in a fable.

Two decades and more kept in jail,
they tried to suppress a black truth.
A free mind roamed outside the cell,
while the body was captive in youth.

Water that bubbles will come to boil -
You can never shut that by a lid on it.
Insufferable odds, dedication and toil -
The path to freedom, is thus tightly knit.

LAKSHMI

Jingle and tinkle go the bells -
they move on herd by herd.
It's their last journey, none tells -
'It's morn now', says the bird.

They nudge and trudge all along -
tied to ropes, head held high!
Life, today singing it's last song -
with dawn, darkness was at nigh!

The mother, the calf and the bull,
were following the owner's lead.
Moving gaily with tug and pull,
while nearing towards destiny's bid.

While others were there waiting lined,
all of them cowering like a mouse.
Lakshmi the cow, never once whined,
while she went to the slaughter house.

O' RIVER

O' River! What would you say,
when you at last meet the sea?
Like a gypsy now as you may,
in tides you move on as mind be.

O' River! You will play no more,
as you meander thru' muddy banks.
You lose them all to have a shore,
taking from you, your glorious ranks.

O' River! You will widen and slow
as your sweetness meets saline.
Clear your mind so you may know -
What we think as ours - is never mine.

MOTHER INDIA

Let me curve a statue, I say -
Of dark eyes that could see the light.
Infuse life so that one fine day,
it would make all the wrongs right.

Mould me the hand, you should -
Having different nimble fingers.
A future to create that is good,
so that peace upon us lingers.

As such shape it's legs, you must -
So that on its own it proudly stands.
Before I close my eyes, at last -
Let love, like Ganges flow in its strands.

AZAD HIND FAUZ

What did the soldier of the INA,
in dying breath to his comrade say?
'To the Capital onward you will be led,
while I will now forever rest in bed'.

In peace, thus to the flames I go -
On the same flame, we took oath you know.
Let them know, we are a different breed -
This torch remains lit till we are freed.

We won't go down like caged pigs,
even though the bullet fiercely digs.
Surrounded by wild ravenous pack,
back to walls, we need to fight back.

For pilgrims, this be a hallowed spot -
Where we laid lives, the fighting lot.
When no more, never shed a tear -
We went down fighting without fear.

What so, if we go to our own grave?
Show who we are, the warriors brave.
As death knell sounds deal your blow -
Enemies wud' know us as worthy foe.
Convey our will to those enemies -
Flag will be hoisted in independent breeze.

POLITICS! AFTERMATH!

Commotion was heard on the street,
where three friends used to meet.
They were having fun time out
but the police dwelled in utter doubt.

Warnings were sounded thru' the mike -
By riots, pillaging tensions did spike.
Sectarian unrest went on the high -
Who? How? None really knows why.

Dividing beliefs, split on the heart -
Politics of rot set people apart.
The end of tranquil was on the start -
Dark, devilish path was on the chart.

So many in their teens didn't shine -
Surely an outcome by few undivine.
They didn't let the boy turn into man -
Grew walls around, put up a ban.

Communal flames unseen by open eyes -
Those elected by vote took us by surprise.
Brighter days of future were found in ditches -
A mother lost all to the devil's clutches.

MADMAN - PERSPECTIVE

He trudges clumsily with a sack -
His whole world moves on his back.
He lies or sits here and there -
Unknown of how others at him stare.
He murmurs by himself, illegible words -
Often throw paper bits at invisible birds.
With street canines he made friends -
A message to society he thus sends.

Food from the bins, food from somewhere -
None is bothered of how he does fare.
Sometime he points at the sky and talks -
Though rapt in heed but people still mocks.
Kids jeer him and some people cuss -
In his world his mind knows no fuss.
He sometime smiles and nods his head -
The child in him is yet not dead.

Is he mad? What does he think?
Isn't humanity on extinction's brink?
Who is it that judge the judges,
as humanity on decline slowly trudges?

CAPTIVE MIND AND BODY

An elephant calf is tied to a chain,
while its mother nearby roams free.
Its tugs and pulls are all in vain -
It's leg is bound to the trunk of a tree.

Its body is now weak and feeble -
In mind it is stronger than he wud' ever be.
In futility it kicks off mud and pebble,
while its mother doesn't heed its plea.

A captive body creates a jailed mind -
Thoughts and beliefs get brittle  too.
We need a spark to ignite, flare to find,
so the mind leads the body through.

It is how on us actions take its toll
and make us believe otherwise.
Wrong notions stray us from our goal,
while true belief would h'v given the prize.

KEEP ROLLING

A rolling stone gathers no moss -
With time it smoothens in gloss.
Let the stone roll and play,
as time hardens mound of clay.

Do not get stuck, do things new -
those who dare to try are very few.
The more you roll, more you bounce -
while jealous claws prey and pounce.

While on the way you would touch -
Green grass, dead leaves as such...
They all would have something to tell
of life and its greatness before they fell.

A PILGRIM

Be like a pilgrim all your life -
You need no rest till the end.
Blunt as a stone, sharp as a knife -
You'll meet people at every bend.
Some like Nerium be, some be like Roses -
Some kill like Judas, some suffer like Moses.

Some wear crowns made of thorn -
While some make thorns their crown.
Some light up a darkened morn -
While some complain with a frown.

Be what you are, be what you must be -
Don't fear when people loudly boast.
Like high swelling waves of the sea -
They finally crash upon the coast.

Prasenjit©2022

DO NOT HURRY

Stop by and take a look -
A dew still shines on the grass.
Slow ur' pace, nearby is a brook -
Water flows like molten brass!

What's the hurry? Why do you run?
See the green leaves, the blue sky.
Just relax and have some fun -
Feel that heaven is not so high!

The cranes with folded leg stands -
Seems lost in some deep thought.
Feathers form cloud-like bands -
Shud' have flown, but they naught!

Gather what you can before ur' prime -
A moment passed never comes back.
Knowledge, emotions grow with time,
only if you pause on your track.

LIFE'S PRINCIPLE

Written for Marmie on her 22nd Birthday.

You were born of blessed womb,
on a destined day and time.
To revive others from work 'n' gloom,
as you travel towards your prime.

Be the woman you ought to be,
a disciplined struggle is the key.
The harder you oar, your boat will rock,
as you go on people jeer and mock.

Some waves lash against the face,
in time they do not leave a trace.
Know this for sure, you must know,
the root in dark struggles to grow.
Be the light for one and all,
before the last leaf in autumn fall.

KOSOVO GIRL

For long I have kept you in my chest -
You could have been your country's crest.
How wheels of fortune turn - pitiful fate,
'Run my angel for heaven can't wait'.

As I relive, it is too much of pain
when I walk down the memory lane.
For long I have kept you in my heart -
I'll let you go now, it's time to part.

A favour - It is one that you owe,
which way you went let me know.
Where was He when you met your end?
Boy beside you, I guess was your friend.
Walk up the stairs you shining pearl -
Meet your own, my sweet Kosovo girl.

A GIRL AFTER WAR

Where have all my friends gone?
I had so many things to share.
Jokes, a lonely mind and so on -
My future days are hiding somewhere!

Can you tell me where are my friends?
Many shots were heard that day.
Those echoes just never ends -
Always in my mind, it's here to stay.

Can you tell what the smoke might be
beyond the plains where I used to live?
It seems hope had deserted me -
Is there anything more to give?

Can you tell me where my younger days are?
I would like to fall in love if only I could.
But it goes on, this mindless war
and I wonder if I ever really should!

1971

Imprisoned women, suppressed voices -
Like objects used, sans their choices.
Raised slogans, wanting to be free -
Were beaten to death tied to a tree.
Tears, blood fell - screams echoed in sky -
Humanity was buried but it didn't die!

The ones with whip sweated and panted -
The ones whipped fervently cried and ranted.
Hands of oppressors worked from afar -
Reddened became streets of black tar.
On green fields corpses were piled -
While few leaders somewhere wryly smiled.

They named it, 'The hand of God' -
Yet it was mortals that gave the nod.
They ravaged from millions to crore -
Yet fury flared through public uproar.
History is a witness: Turmoils reach its peak -
Avalanches sweep down in situations bleak.

AXEL 74B7 - A TRIBUTE

Daily he woke up with the sun,
from dawn till day trained to run.
He sniffed, poked and found things,
that to soldier do peril brings.

Trained daily alongwith the others -
Early in age split from their mothers.
One mission and their only goal -
To save their comrade's life and soul.

Badge round neck, vest on their backs -
Follow their trainer on unknown tracks.
Instincts alert, ready for command -
Those faithfuls of the loyal band.

Ready to pounce, maim or kill -
How can one such eternal void fill?
You will be remembered Axel, evermore -
Pride in our heart and eyes so sore.
