UNCOMMON FRIEND

On a wayside muddy pond,
a boy takes his cattle to water.
Away from heat buffaloes are fond,
not indulging in worldly matter.

Knee-deep in mud and semi-clad,
he wards off the insects cruel.
Though hungry yet with them glad,
as he toild all through the duel.

He rides them on their glossy backs,
and creates big waves all around.
Wards of fleas, sometimes smacks,
as they both swim over muddy ground.

Holding onto their ears, whispers secret,
while in attention the buffaloes stand.
In the corner dozes the golden egret,
not aware of the big and weary band.
