DEAR JOHN

Dear John,
I always miss you in every breath,
your courage came wrapped in wreath.
I am told that bravely you have fought -
you were the saviour of the brave lot.

Cold body, closed eyes, calm on face -
the twitching smile, the warm grace.
Lifeless like you, I stood in the crowd -
tears in my eyes, I never felt so proud.

When curtain fell, you exited with a roar -
You were snatched away at twenty four.
Empty hands, heavy heart, nobody in sight -
I have walked miles, kept up the fight.

As sand is wetted by waves on shore,
our memories play in my heart's core.
Sacred the ground upon which you fell -
l imagine those moments your comrades tell.

There never was a fall of greater glory -
you made me immortal in our story.
One day I will surely in your world land
and fulfill the promise, walk hand-in-hand.
